Rate Classes
Residential customers fall under three separate rate classifications - non-heating, heating, and multi-family.
The multi-family rate applies to property owners who are billed on single meters that serve six or more units. All other residential customers are on either the non-heating or heating rate, depending whether natural gas is their primary heating source. This rate structure places greater emphasis on the cost of providing service, based on consumption patterns. In addition, the rate design provides information that explains in greater detail what is being charged and paid for on customer bills. Residential Rate 3 customers have the option of buying their gas commodity from a third- party supplier. Customers electing third-party supply are not billed the Commodity Charge.
