Natural Gas Vehicles – Good for the environment and your business

Honda Civic GX Natural At Yankee Gas, we’ve adopted technologies that reduce our carbon footprint and help improve the environment. In March 2009, we put three Honda Civic GX Natural Gas Vehicles into service and based them at our Berlin, Meriden and Waterbury offices for fleet use.

Natural Gas Vehicles are good for the environment because natural gas is the cleanest-burning alternative fuel. As a result, these vehicles produce nearly zero emissions. Moreover, they rely on North American supplies of natural gas, not imported oil.

Natural Gas Vehicles are ideal for fleets, especially taxis, airport shuttles, transit buses or refuse haulers. Using natural gas can save fleets money on fueling and routine maintenance. The fuel burns cleaner than gasoline so engine oil stays cleaner longer.

Why promote alternatively fueled vehicles? It’s only natural. The fuel used in these vehicles is the same natural gas that we deliver to homes and businesses for cooking, heating and more. You can make your life a little easier and your home more comfortable with a variety of natural gas appliances, such as home heating furnaces and boilers, water heaters, fireplaces, clothes dryers, grills, patio-pool-spa heaters, towel warmers, back-up generators and more. When you add natural gas appliances, you add comfort, value and style.

  • Natural gas is the cleanest-burning alternative fuel. Compared with gasoline-powered vehicles, dedicated NGVs can reduce exhaust emissions of CO by approximately 70 percent, non-methane organic gas (NMOG) by 89 percent and NOx by 87 percent. Dedicated NGVs also can reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) -- the principle "greenhouse" gas -- exhaust emissions by 20 - 30 percent.
  • There are 20 compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations in New England. NGVs also can be fueled from a small dispenser directly connected to a home or business natural gas line.
